Flora

Flora -:The sanctuary is home to over 500 species of flowering plants and various species of lithophytes, ferns, orchids and terrestrial orchids. The sanctuary encompasses to types of forests within its ambit .

  • The Sal dominating dry deciduous forest.
  • Mixed forest. A notable species of native olive (Chionanthus ramiflorus) can be seen in the sanctuary forest.

Fauna

Apart from the elephants the sanctuary is home to various species of mammals like giant squirell, sloth bear, barking dear, pangolin, striped hynea and many more.

The sanctuary also has very rich avifauna it contains over 300 species of birds.

The sanctuary has many perennial water streams, springs and waterbodies which sustain many reptiles and snake species like Indian rock python, monitore lizard, east indian leopard gecko etc.the environs of the sanctuary are augmented by the splendour fluttering of butterflies.

The sanctuary is very rich in Lepidoptera species. Both butterflies and moths are found in equal abundance here, along with a variety of other insects. As per the observations of forest staff a notable species butterfly known as common mapwing butterfly is seen here which is usually inhabitant of the tropical or rain forests.
